Cutting the Fabric

Each garment begins with precision. Every piece is first drawn out using carefully designed templates and then hand-cut by our skilled team, a process that requires skill, focus, and years of practice.

Recently, we invested in a cutting machine to support them, helping to ease the physical strain while allowing more garments to be cut each day. But even with modern tools, it’s our cutters’ steady hands and sharp eyes that bring every piece to life,, while still keeping the human touch at the heart of the process.

Embroidery

The next stage is where design meets fabric, brought to life through embroidery, a process that adds texture and detail to our garments. This stage is outsourced to a specialist factory where machines carefully trace the design, stitch by stitch. Depending on the complexity, embroidery can take up to three hours to complete for a single garment. Once finished, the pieces are returned to our sewing factory, where our Balinese family continue the process and see each garment take shape.

Screen printing

Many of our pieces are hand screen-printed, a craft that requires precision, patience, and time. Each garment is sent to a specialist factory where the prints are carefully applied by hand. When a design requires more than one colour, multiple screens are used one for each colour and after every print the garment must be dried before the next layer can be added. Some designs are especially intricate, using up to 12 layered prints known as a “stack” to create a striking 3D effect. This slow and deliberate process builds depth and detail one layer at a time, making every print a work of art.

Sewing & assembly

Once the fabrics are cut and the designs are added, the pieces move into the sewing stage. Here, our Balinese family of makers bring the garment to life by stitching each part together with care and precision. This process can take hours, as every seam must align perfectly to ensure comfort, durability, and a clean finish. It’s in this stage that the flat pieces of fabric are transformed into a complete garment ready to be worn and cherished.

Quality Control

he final stage is quality control, where every garment is carefully inspected to ensure it meets our standards. Each piece is checked against the original specification every seam, print, and detail is reviewed with a meticulous eye. For embroidered designs, there’s an extra step where the mesh backing inside the garment is carefully hand-picked and cut away, leaving a clean and comfortable finish. This stage is slow and detailed, but it’s what ensures every Cerana garment leaves our Bali workshop ready to be worn with pride.
